Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I get started?

Create an account using Google, Apple, or email, then start logging coffees you have tried using the + button. Once you have logged at least 5 coffees with ratings, your palate profile and insight cards will generate automatically.

2. How do I log a coffee?

Tap the + button from any screen. Enter the coffee name, roaster, origin, variety, processing method, drying method, bag size, price, and your personal rating (0–5 in 0.25 steps). Tasting notes and SCA score are optional. A live €/kg value preview updates as you enter price and weight.

3. What is the palate profile?

Your palate profile is generated from regression analysis of your logged coffees. It identifies which variables — variety, origin, process, drying method — best explain your ratings, and ranks them by explanatory power. The result is a palate fingerprint: what actually drives your scores, not what you think drives them.

4. What are the insight cards?

Six cards generated automatically from your data: Variety, Origin, Process, Drying, Value Analysis, and What You Avoid. Each shows a data-driven strapline — tap any card to see the full ranked breakdown behind it.

5. What are the Daily Driver and Special Occasion recommendations?

Daily Driver ranks your qualifying coffees (rated 4.0★ or above) by value score (€/★ — lowest cost per point of quality). Special Occasion ranks them by raw rating descending. Both are calculated from your own collection, not from external reviews.

6. Why do some coffees show "below standard"?

Coffees rated below 4.0★ are tracked separately. They are excluded from value rankings and recommendations, but they still contribute to your palate analysis — patterns in what you don't like are as informative as patterns in what you do.

7. What is the Explore section?

Explore is a reference encyclopedia of 52 specialty coffee terms across five dimensions: Variety, Origin, Process, Drying, and Concept. Each entry connects agronomy, economics, and flavour — and where relevant, links your personal data to the term. It is designed to make the insight cards legible, not to be the primary product.

8. How do I manage my subscription?

coffeesmarts offers a free trial followed by an auto-renewing subscription. On iOS, manage or cancel via App Store → Your Account → Subscriptions. On Android, go to Google Play → Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.

9. How do I export my data?

Export my data — available from Settings → Data Management. A structured JSON export of all your personal data under GDPR Article 20 (right to portability), including your profile, all coffee entries, and account information. Shared via your device's native share sheet.

10. What are my data rights under GDPR?

If you are in the EU or UK, several rights are exercisable directly in the app:

  • Opt out of analytics — Settings → Analytics opt-out toggle. When disabled, no analytics events fire.
  • Export your data — JSON export from Settings. See FAQ 9 above.
  • Erase your data — Settings → Data Management → Delete Data.
  • Delete your account — Settings → Account → Delete Account.

For rights requiring our involvement (correction, restriction, objection), contact privacy@ensoventures.org. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

11. How do I erase my data?

To erase all your coffee data and personal information while keeping your account active, go to Settings → Data Management → Delete Data. This permanently removes all logged coffees, analytics history, and personal data. To delete your account and all data entirely, go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. Both actions are irreversible.

12. How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. You will be asked to re-authenticate before deletion. This permanently and irreversibly removes your account, all coffee log entries, all analytics data, and all personal information.

13. Is my coffee data private?

Yes. Your coffee data is stored securely in Firebase (EU region) and is never sold or shared with third parties for any marketing or advertising purpose. Analytics can be disabled entirely from Settings. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
